The Appeal Court in Lagos State has confirmed Siminalayi Fubara as the duly elected governor of Rivers State, dismissing the petition filed by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. The petition was against Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
During the court session on Tuesday, the APC candidate sought an order from the court instructing INEC to declare him the winner of the March governorship election in Rivers. However, the court rejected Cole’s request and upheld the election of Fubara.
This legal dispute originated when Cole contested Fubara’s election as governor, and the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal initially dismissed Cole’s case in October. Unsatisfied with the tribunal’s decision, the APC candidate pursued the matter to the appellate court.
In the latest ruling on Tuesday, the Appeal Court affirmed the Tribunal’s judgment, thereby validating Fubara’s victory in the October governorship election
